Cygnus is a symphonic progressive metal band which is listened to by a diversity of listeners as much in the world of metal music as in the classic music one. The above is because the way that the composition techniques are interwoven providing the rawness of the heavy metal and that one which gives the mysticism, the style and the class to the proposal. We can find Romanticism, Classicism and Barroco among others genres of the seasons in which the music was taken to the ultimate expression, in musical pieces such as, "l'inno sacro", "Flammis acribus".
On the other side, we can find the rawness of the metal, in a series of songs, like "Wrath of divine saints" and "Blind by shadows". The mixture of both genres can be found in "Cry of a goddess". All the above can be gotten in a single song named: "Wrath of divine saints". However, a most popular sound can be found in “Plains of Sorrow”. The band was founded in Guatemala City, in December 2005, by Pablo Rozzotto. The compositions were created some years ago because the project would be worked only at the studios. It was never thought to play on stage. However, because of the people liking this kind of music, it was imminent to take the project to live concerts. In December 2006, Pablo contacts Josue Sandoval, a Guatemalan Opera Singer who was a student of the high prestigious Monaco Musical Academy. Josue has participated in many opera works, among them, “la traviata”, which was presented in the National Theater of Guatemala. The work included many celebrities of the singing coming from several countries, such as, Italy, Spain, etc. That is how Josue became part of Cygnus. Later on, it took place the connection with the other members of the group, Javier Espinoza, the bass. Gustavo Flores, in the drums, a musician who has participated in many local bands and in several musical projects. After that, amazed by the Singer Elisa Barquin, during a show of Napolitan Music with the tenor Josue Sandoval in the National Conservatory, Elisa was invited to become a member of the band to get the final touch and the wanted assembly of the compositions. Elisa is an opera Singer, and alike Josue, she has studied at Monaco Academy. She has presented many classic music concerts due to she has a unique voice denominated Absolute Soprano. This is a kind of voice that has the darkness of a dramatic soprano and the lightness of a lyric one. Due to the Project acceptance, the Cygnus first presentation on stage was in the anniversary of the music portal in Internet denominated “Rockrepublik”. In that time, they made the debut as the main band. It has also invited to play together with high Metal Rock personalities such as Dark Moor and Therion. Pablo Rozzotto also has big projects with international musicians like Tim Waterson. He is recognized as being the fast drummer in the world and hold the Guinness record of that. Dave Mayton, is the fast picking guitarist in the world holding the same record with Guinness. Cygnus received an offer to make a discographic contract with Emania Productions. They launched independently, the EP, “Wrath of Divine Saints, early in 2007 The band showed up at IGA theater to play a most popular version of the aria “Il Brindis” from the opera “La Traviata” written by the Italian romantic composer Giuseppe Verdi. The Cygnus music was listened to in Italya through the radio program called Morbid Sound and in “Avanzada Metallica” in Dominican Republic. Cygnus has been interviewed by many TV programs. Among them, there can be mentioned the following: "Nuestro mundo por la mañana", "el noticiero guatevision", "al filo de la noche", "Rumores", "Punto G","Amas a Guateamala". The interviews has also been made by the newspapers, "Prensa libre", "Siglo XXI", "Al Día" and the guatemalan magazine "Mayan Voices". The TV program “Viva la Mañana” has also mentioned the band in some of its broadcastings. Cygnus qualified in the first play trough an international voting in Internet to play in the prestigious Magic Circle Festival, MCM, which was held in Germany. It got the first place competing with bands of Finland, Greece, Germany, the USA, etc. Current line-up Feminine voice: Elisa Barquin Former members Gustavo Flores: Drums Musical gender: In spite of the electrical guitars and modern instruments, the variation of genders among progressive metal, symphonic metal, orchestra music and the mixture between jazz and rock, Cygnus can be defined as Academic Music at all.
